Ayodhya is considered one of the most sacred towns in Hinduism. It is famed for being the birthplace of Lord Rama and is about 2.5 hours from Lucknow. Ayodhya is well-known for its ghats and temples, and it is a destination of worship for devotees.

It is the sacred city and the spiritual heart centre of three religions: Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism.

Itinerary of a two-day tour to Ayodhya

Day 1

Once you reach Ayodhya, you can rent a room in a hotel and then start your journey. There are many tourist spots and destinations in Ayodhya where you’ll have a peaceful experience; you can begin your journey by first visiting the Hanuman Garhi temple. 

Hanuman Garhi temple

This is one of Ayodhya's most well-known temples. This temple was constructed by the Nawab of Awadh and is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Lord Hanuman is said to have dwelt here and guarded the Janambhoomi.

Devotees say that if you visit this temple, all of your wishes would be granted. If you wish to feel the pleasant and powerful aura, you should visit this temple, especially during the festival season.

The temple is open for all days from 6 am to 9 pm. 

Kanak Bhawan 

This is the spot which was gifted to Sita by Lord Rama’s stepmother, Kaikeyi in the ‘mukh dikhai’ ceremony. At this place, a temple was constructed and was later renovated by King Vikramaditya of the Paramara dynasty.

You can witness the beautiful idols of Goddess Sita along with Lord Ram with his three brothers. You can visit Kanak Bhawan between 6 am to 9 pm any day. 

You can take some refreshments outside Kanak Bhawan. You can also visit Kanak Rasoi, which is run by Kanak Bhawan trust and there you can enjoy onion and garlic-free dishes. The price of thali is quite affordable. 

Ram Janmabhoomi

This temple is 15 minutes walk away from Kanak Bhawan. It is one of the most popular attractions of Ayodhya and is considered to be the birthplace of Lord Ram. The large mass of devotes gathers and offers their prayers to Lord Ram. The temple opens every day, and the timings are between 7 am to 11 am and 2 pm to 6 pm. 

Guptar Ghat 

One of the important pilgrim spots for Hindus is Guptar Ghat. It is located on the banks of the Sarayu River, where you can also see dolphins. It is believed to be the spot where Lord Ram took Jal Samadhi. It was the last dip of Lord Rama and he was never seen again after that. You can visit various temples, and can also experience blissful aarti. You can enjoy palatable pakodas and corns available on the ghat. 

Day 2

Moti Mahal

Moti Mahal is located a few kilometres away from Ayodhya. It is popularly known as the ‘Pearl Palace’. The palace was the house of the wife of Nawab Shuja-ud-daula. If you love to explore Nawabi Culture, then this place is a must-visit.

The architecture is elegant and attractive, and you’ll have a splendid view of Nawab’s rich heritage. The place is visited by many tourists. 

Gulab Bari (Garden of Roses)

This place is also known as the Garden of Roses due to its huge collection of roses of different varieties, located by the water fountains. The place compromises of various monuments and was built by Nawab Shuja-ud-daula. You must visit the place to experience the beauty and the Nawabi architecture. 

Mausoleum of Bahu Begum

Another significant historical landmark in Ayodhya is the Mausoleum of Bahu Begum, also known as Bahu Begum ka Makabara. The tomb was constructed in 1816 to be the final resting place of Shuja-ud-daula's wife Bahu Begum.

The architectural style is typical of Nawabi. The tomb is made of white marble with well maintained lush green garden. The location is unmissable.

You can next proceed to Ayodhya's famed shopping streets, such as Tehri Bazaar, Main Market Katra, and Shringaar Haat, where you can buy apparel and famous delicacies. There are also several restaurants where you can sample the local cuisine.

Railways

Ayodhya Junction Railway station is a railway station in the city of Ayodhya. It is one of two railway crossroads in the twin city, the other being Faizabad Junction. A variety of hotels and amenities are available near the station.

Buses from several states make it simple to go to Ayodhya. You may take a bus from wherever and get to Ayodhya. 

Personal Vehicle

You can take a car or a cab to Ayodhya. The travel time will be determined by the distance of the state and the amount of traffic on the highways.
